This immersive two-day course runs from Friday evening to Sunday afternoon, based in Betws-y-Coed — the gateway to Snowdonia. It combines practical outdoor first aid with core mountain skills, giving you the confidence to manage yourself and others in real hill environments.

Training focuses on building competence and judgement, then putting those skills into practice on Welsh mountains. Expect real terrain, changing conditions, and supported progression — not classroom simulations.

Ideal as a next step from a 1-day Outdoor First Aid course, or as preparation for larger UK or overseas expeditions.

Hands-on, experience-led training including:

  • Navigation beyond marked paths (map, compass, terrain interpretation)
  • Group management and mountain safety
  • Outdoor first aid in real-world conditions
  • Emergency procedures and improvised shelters
  • Planning and equipment for multi-day journeys

All learning is reinforced during hill days, culminating in Welsh summits where skills are applied in context.

  • Course base: Betws-y-Coed, Snowdonia
  • Accommodation partner: Glan Aber Hotel (10% discount available)
  • Terrain: Mountain paths, open hillside, and remote upland areas
