Outdoor First Aid - 16 Hours 

Be Adventure Ready with essential outdoor first aid skills 
 
Our 16-hour Outdoor First Aid course is the recognised standard for outdoor professionals and adventurers. It’s equivalent to the Wilderness Medical Society (WMS) Wilderness First Aid (WFA) course. 
 
You’ll learn how to: 
 
Manage an incident and assess a casualty in the outdoors 
Use airway, breathing, and circulation skills (CPR & AED) 
Control bleeding and treat shock 
Manage musculoskeletal injuries with splints and slings 
Recognise and respond to medical emergencies (asthma, diabetes, epilepsy and more) 
Handle environmental issues like heat, cold, and weather exposure 
Make safe evacuation decisions 
 
👉 Ideal for: instructors, group leaders, Duke of Edinburgh supervisors, outdoor workers, and anyone heading into the hills. 
 
Location: Chiltern Hills AONB (The Horse Trust or Aston Rowant Nature Reserve) 
Duration: 2 days (16 hours) 
Certification: Regulated Outdoor First Aid certificate (valid 3 years)

Over 2 days, you will cover a lot of ground. Both through the syllabus and utilising our amazing outside areas. 
 
Course Content: 
✅Vital signs – breathing, level of consciousness, temperature, colour 
✅Incident management – a systematic approach to managing first aid incidents. ABC 
✅Airway Management – causes and treatment of unconscious collapse. 
✅Circulation Problems – Internal bleeding, external bleeding and treatment for shock 
✅Damage – suspected fractures, head, neck and back injuries plus helmet removal. 
✅Environmental Considerations – hypothermia, hyperthermia and cold injuries 
✅Casualty Monitoring and prolonged casualty care 
✅Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) - Adult and Drowning protocols are covered 
✅Safe Use of an Automated External Defibrillator (AED) 
✅Introduction into Psychological First Aid 
 
As with all our courses you are invited to join our community and take advantage of workshops to practice and develop your skills. 
 
This training can also be certificated for Forest School practitioners. 
 
Successful learners can progress to Advanced Outdoor First Aid.
