Psychological First Aid Because Mental Health Matters in the Field

It’s not just about physical injuries — it’s about the people who keep the team going.
This one-day Psychological First Aid course explores the link between mental health and behaviour, teaching practical tools to help individuals and groups stay mentally well in challenging, unfamiliar, or high-pressure outdoor environments.

What You’ll Learn
Participants will gain skills to:
Recognise early signs of distress in teammates and leaders
Provide immediate peer support in stressful situations
Build group resilience and foster a supportive culture

Expedition & Outdoor Focus
You’re a long way from home — and unique mental health challenges come with that. We cover:
Pre-departure anxiety and preparation
Stress triggers during remote travel
Comfort zones vs. panic zones — and how to guide others through them
The leader’s role in duty of care and emotional support

Courses take place in the Chiltern Hills Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty (AONB), on the Buckinghamshire–Oxfordshire border:

Mental Health in the Workplace
I recently attended a 2 Day, 16 hour outdoor first aid course. This is the 6th time I have attended this type of course over a period of 18 years. This has been necessary to maintain the validity of my ML qualification and enables me to continue leading as a volunteer for a major walking holiday company.

All previous courses were held mainly indoors with a token offering outside. The majority of this course was held outdoors, on the Ridgeway, in naff weather. The scenarios almost felt real.”
