Advanced Outdoor First Aid – 35 Hours 
Step up to advanced wilderness medicine 
 
Our 35-hour Advanced Outdoor First Aid course goes beyond the basics. It’s aligned with the Wilderness Medical Society (WMS) Wilderness Advanced First Aid (WAFA) standard, preparing you for extended care in remote settings. 
 
You’ll learn how to: 
 
Use airway adjuncts, OPA, NPA 
Use of oxygen 
Provide extended patient care (24–48 hrs) before evacuation 
Clean and manage wounds to prevent infection 
Assess and stabilise head, neck & spine injuries 
Manage hypothermia, hyperthermia, and altitude illness 
Deal with seizures, heart issues, allergies, and mental health crises 
Use splints, pelvic binders, improvised stretcher, and shelters for long-term care 
Lead evacuation planning and communicate effectively with emergency services 
 
👉 Ideal for: expedition leaders, mountain professionals, international trekkers, and anyone responsible for groups in challenging environments. 
 
Location: Chiltern Hills AONB (The Horse Trust or Aston Rowant Nature Reserve) 
Duration: 4–5 days (35 hours) 
Certification: Regulated Advanced Outdoor First Aid certificate (valid 3 years)

As with all our courses you are invited to join our community and take advantage of free workshops to practice and develop your skills. 
 
This is a five day course, we offer it as five consecutive days or split into two blocks (check dates). You need to be available for both blocks of dates. Training is held at the Horse Trust, Nr Speen, Buckinghamshire. 
 
The certificate lasts for three years, there is an option to complete a three day requalification course. 
 
The skills taught on this course can be used in the UK, you may wish to check your employers insurance or you can take out personal insurance.
